Unpacking

Unpacking tells Clover how many units sit inside a pack. Scan the case, and the app offers to unpack it: the single items are added to the order instead, and your inventory stops drifting between “cases in the back” and “bottles on the shelf”.

Overview

How it works

1

A pack maps a case to its contents

You tell the app which item is the case, which item is inside it, and how many units it holds.

2

The prompt appears at the register

When the case is scanned, the app asks whether to unpack it.

3

The order is rewritten

On confirmation the case is replaced by the single items, so the stock movement matches what left the shelf.

4

Everything is logged

The Reports tab shows what was unpacked, when and how many units.

The app never replaces the Clover Register — it adds to it. Payments, taxes and reporting stay in Clover.
Features

What it does

01

Pack definitions

For every container item, set which item is inside it and how many units it holds.

02

Unpack prompt at the register

When the pack is scanned, the app asks Do you want to unpack it? and adds the single items to the order.

03

Correct stock

Unpacking moves the count from the case to the singles, so both stay accurate in Clover Inventory.

04

Reports

The Reports tab shows what was unpacked, when, and by how many units.

05

One switch to pause

App enabled turns the whole behaviour off without deleting your packs.

Configuration

Setup scenarios

Each scenario is a complete configuration — follow the steps in order.

Most configuration screens require the Clover employee role of Manager or Admin.
1A case of 24 bottles sold as singles

Stock arrives by the case, customers buy one bottle.

  1. Make sure both items exist in Clover Inventory: the case and the single bottle.
  2. Open UnpackingPacks and tap +.
  3. In Select pack choose the case item.
  4. In Select items in the pack choose the single bottle.
  5. In How many items are in the pack? enter 24, then save.
  6. At the register, scan the case: the app offers to unpack it and puts 24 singles in the order instead.
2Selling part of a pack

The customer wants six, not the whole case.

  1. Scan the case at the register and accept the unpack prompt.
  2. The order now contains the single items — remove the ones you are not selling.
  3. The remaining quantity is what the customer pays for.
  4. Check the Reports tab later to see how many packs were opened.
Because the count comes from your pack definition, keep it in sync when a supplier changes the case size.
3Temporarily switch the prompt off

During a stock count or a promotion you may want the case to sell as a case.

  1. Open the Settings tab.
  2. Turn App enabled off — your pack definitions stay saved.
  3. Sell the cases as normal Clover items.
  4. Turn the switch back on when you want unpacking again.
At the register

Everyday use

What the cashier does after the app is configured.

  1. Scan the case at the register.
  2. Answer the unpack question: confirm to sell singles, decline to sell the whole case.
  3. Remove the units the customer is not buying.
  4. Check the Reports tab when you want to know how many cases were opened.

Troubleshooting

Symptom on the left, what to do on the right.

SymptomWhat to do
The prompt never appears.App enabled is off, or the scanned item is not registered as a pack.

Stock counts still look wrong. Both the case and the single item need stock tracking enabled in Clover Inventory.
The app's dialog never appears on the payment screen; Clover shows "Customer is choosing payment method".Open the Clover Setup app → Payments and uncheck Automatically take payment on Connected Device, so payment is taken on the primary device.
Settings cannot be opened or changed.Sign in with an employee whose Clover role is Manager or Admin. Some apps also have their own Restrict access switch that locks the configuration.
The app works erratically, or stops reacting after the device has been idle.Turn off Battery Saver in the device's Android settings and keep the device online.
A change made on one device is not visible on another.Settings sync through the cloud; give it a minute and make sure both devices have a network connection.
