Item Discounts

Item Discounts applies a fixed or percentage discount to specific items or whole categories, on the days and hours you set. Set up the promotion once and the register handles it — automatically, or behind a button when the cashier should decide.

Overview

How it works

1

A discount is a rule, not a button press

You define what it takes off, from which items, and when it is allowed to run.

2

The status tells you everything

Each card shows Active now, Ended, Disabled, No days selected, or a countdown such as Starts in 2d 4h.

3

Automatic or on request

An automatic discount is applied by the Register itself; a manual one waits behind the tender button you named.

4

Weight-aware

With weight discounts on, the amount is multiplied by the item's weight, which matters for goods sold per unit of weight.

5

Archives instead of deletion

A finished promotion is archived, keeps its settings and can be restored next season.

The app never replaces the Clover Register — it adds to it. Payments, taxes and reporting stay in Clover.
Features

What it does

01

Items or categories

Apply on … targets individual items or every item in a category.

02

Amount or percentage

Take $1 off each unit or 30% off the price — whichever fits the promotion.

03

Day and time schedule

Start and end dates, a daily time window and the weekdays the discount runs on.

04

Automatic or manual

Add it to every matching order, or leave it behind the tender button for the cashier.

05

Live status

Each discount shows Active now, Ended, Disabled, No days selected or a countdown such as Starts in 2d 4h.

06

Weight discounts

Multiply the discount amount by the item weight for goods sold per unit of weight.

07

Archive and restore

Archive a seasonal promotion and bring it back next year instead of building it again.

08

Employee restrictions

Decide who may add or edit discounts and who may change the tender button.

First setup

Do this once, in this order. It takes a few minutes and the app is then ready for the shift.

  1. Open Item Discounts. The bottom tabs are Discounts and Settings.
  2. Open Settings and set Tender Button Name (In Clover Register) — needed only for manual discounts.
  3. Go back to Discounts and tap +.
  4. Enter a name, pick a colour, then choose Apply on …Item or Categories — and select the products.
  5. Choose AMOUNT or PERCENTAGE and type the value.
  6. Choose AUTOMATICALLY or MANUALLY (VIA TENDER), set the From/To dates and times and tick the weekdays.
  7. Save and check the card: it should read Active now or show a countdown.
  8. In SettingsRestrictions, remove Add/edit discounts from employees who should not change the rules.
If the card says No days selected, the discount can never run — open it and tick the weekdays.

Configuration

Setup scenarios

Each scenario is a complete configuration — follow the steps in order.

Most configuration screens require the Clover employee role of Manager or Admin.
1End-of-day bakery markdown

Fresh goods should drop in price after a certain hour, every day, without staff action.

  1. Open Item DiscountsDiscounts and tap +.
  2. Name it Evening bakery and pick a colour.
  3. Apply on … = Categories, then select the bakery category.
  4. Discount type = Percentage, value 30.
  5. Add to order … = Automatically.
  6. Set the time window from 19:00 to 21:00 and tick every weekday, then save.
  7. The list now shows the discount with a countdown until it becomes Active now.
2A weekday promotion on selected items

A supplier deal on a handful of products, Monday to Thursday only.

  1. Create a discount and choose Apply on … = Item.
  2. Tap Select items and tick the products in the deal.
  3. Choose Amount and enter the discount per unit.
  4. Set the date range to the length of the supplier deal.
  5. Tick MO, TU, WE, TH and save.
  6. When the promotion ends, archive it instead of deleting — it is ready for next time.
3A manual discount for damaged goods

Should be given by decision, not automatically to everyone.

  1. Create a discount, set Add to order … = Manually (via tender).
  2. Select the items or categories it may be applied to.
  3. Open Settings and set the Tender Button Name the cashier will look for.
  4. In Restrictions remove Add/edit discounts from employees who should not change the rules.
  5. At the register the cashier opens the tender button and picks the discount.
At the register

Everyday use

What the cashier does after the app is configured.

  1. Automatic discounts need nothing from the cashier — the Register applies them inside the schedule.
  2. For a manual discount, open the payment screen, tap your tender button and pick the discount.
  3. If a discount should not apply today, open it and disable it rather than deleting it.
  4. When a promotion is over, archive it so it can be restored next time.

Questions

FAQ

Can one discount cover several categories?
Yes — select as many categories as you need in the discount editor.
What does 'weight discounts' do?
It multiplies the discount amount by the item's weight, so goods sold by weight get a proportional discount.
Why does my discount say 'No days selected'?
No weekday is ticked, so it can never run. Open it and select the days.
What is the difference from Order Discounts?
Order Discounts works on the whole order and runs cash discount programs; Item Discounts targets items and categories.
Do archived discounts still apply?
No. Archiving stops the discount; restoring it makes it live again.
How much does it cost?
$0.99 per month for the whole store, with a 30-day free trial.
